Within a personal exploration of how memory shapes perception,&nbsp; I aim to show my struggle to reconcile the overflow of mental images, questioning photography’s role in capturing what is ultimately unattainable. The exhibition transforms the gallery into a landscape of overlapping temporalities. Photographic fragments, blown up and reimagined as sculptures, textiles, and mixed-media installations, transcend the static nature of album photography. It is a digital collage that doesn’t display reality, but an image of space. The image is transformed when we walk up the stairs and abandon familiar clouds for a darker, vaguer vision of space, becoming ever more fleeting and fragmented. though when looking at them, the realms they invite us into are incredibly present. I see them as doors for us to open, so that narratives emerge, creating inner travels within the mind. Photographs are illusions but still, it is the most natural response to believe in their realness and dive into them. Disrupted photographs, conceived as fluid matter, escaping from settled expectations, are on display. They are staged to be passed through, moved, observed while their potential meanings are shaping with you. The location of this life-size landscape is not mentioned; it could be anywhere in the world but Iceland. This is a way for me to allow the viewers to project their own ideas, memories and narratives in the landscape. The bench is inviting the viewers to sit and contemplate the landscape, to feel immersed in the image. This amazing ability we have to mentally project ourselves into a still image is fascinating; the gap between the artwork and the viewer disappears. It has a rythm of its own, which makes it independent from the viewers, from me. It is a recording of a natural element that can evoke the rumble of a belly, the sound of the earth moving or thunder from a great distance.
