Would we travel great distances without beautiful dreams? In order to go forward in life, one has to envision a new place full of uplifting possibilities: we dream before we live, we travel within ourselves before starting a new journey and ultimately, the journey never leads where expected.
Milky Dreams & Pearly Wheels was part of the program of the annual Museum Night of Cologne. It was supported by the Icelandic Art Center and received the SÍM Travel Grant.

They have no pictures on the walls
Solo exhibition of Lukas Bury with a contrbution by Weronika BalcerakRÝMD art space, Reykjavik
2021
The act of setting up pictures on the walls is a way to appropriate a space. It is a way to say, from this very threshold, within these walls, I belong. What I like, what I feel, what I project myself into is around me, for me. But when a home has no pictures on its walls, it leaves a peculiar feeling: who lives there and why are the walls empty?
The title of the exhibition stems from a discussion between artist Lukas Bury and a native Icelander. They were surprised not to see pictures on the walls in the homes of Polish people they know.
This remark resonated deeply with Bury and Balcerak, who started documenting the Polish community in Iceland. In their research, they tackle not only stereotypes present in Iceland, but also surpass their own presumptions about the Polish community, which leads them to raise new questions about the dynamics of a minority.

Vestur í bláinn was a multidisciplinary music and art project on immigration in Iceland. It aimed to be a space for voices, different languages and stories of people from diverse origins.
Julius Pollux started ‘Vestur í bláinn’ as an experimental music project, which combines voices of immigrants and refugees in Iceland with his own musical take on the subject.
Claire Paugam and Julius Pollux then teamed up to expand the project into an art exhibition and elevate political concerns within a poetic perspective, encouraging a humanistic and empathetic look on people’s stories, situations, emotions and backgrounds.
Local artists were invited to engage in a dialogue with the music pieces by creating the ten artworks that were presented in this exhibition.
The exhibition took place in ten public locations in Reykjavík from September 3rd to September 30th 2020.

Regenerate is a word with many definitions and ideas. The specific focus of “Regeneration” for this exhibition is loss. This can manifest itself in physical, mental, or spiritual loss. From a missing limb to the death of a loved one, the physical loss after giving birth or a removal of an organ. Perhaps it is the feeling of being an incomplete human according to social norms. And with this ‘loss’, how do we renew, recreate oneself? What to do with this missing part of us?
